The ATH-AL5NC combines the spacious, natural sound quality of an open-back design with the freedom of wireless connectivity, aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts, remote workers, gamers, and anyone who values audio quality alongside wireless convenience. The headphones use specially designed 53mm dynamic drivers to deliver a wide, detailed soundstage with the natural presentation characteristic of open-back designs. The open housings help prevent heat build-up around the ears and keep the headphones lightweight (240g) for extended wearing comfort.

A built-in microphone is included for virtual meetings and in-game communication, and the rechargeable battery provides up to 75 hours of continuous playback (up to 50 hours with noise-reduction enabled), with up to 8 hours of playback from just a 15-minute charge (5 hours with noise-reduction enabled). The included Audio-Technica CONNECT app provides customisation tools such as a low-latency mode for gaming and video, EQ adjustment, a soundscape function, and codec selection. A 1.2m (3.9') cable with 3.5mm (1/8") stereo mini-plug and in-line mic/control is included for wired use. A noise-reduction function is also available, operated via a button on the right earcup -  note that sound leakage is audible at higher volume levels, as is typical of open-back headphones.
