The TEAC TN-5BB is a belt-drive analog turntable with a hybrid chassis combining a 36mm MDF baseplate and a 12mm synthetic marble top plate, isolating the tonearm and platter from motor vibration. Platter rotation is regulated by TEAC's Platter Rotation Sensing Servo System (PRS3), supporting 33-⅓, 45, and 78 rpm on a 20mm-thick, 1.7kg acrylic platter.

The static-balanced S-shaped tonearm was developed with SAEC, using a knife-edge bearing for vertical movement and dual-point precision bearings for lateral movement, with a 6mm VTA adjustment range and SAEC PC-Triple C internal wiring. A powered arm lifter automatically raises the arm at the end of playback via a non-contact optical sensor.
